Why is being tannin-free so important?
Tannins are a form of proanthocyanidins (another OPC) found in grape seeds, stems, and skin. As a result, they are found in many grape seed extracts. However, they have a high molecular weight, which makes them very difficult for the body to absorb, and in any case, they don’t provide strong health benefits. Clinical OPC with Pine Bark provides only low-molecular weight, easily absorbed OPCs from both botanicals, including a complex mixture of flavanolic monomers (catechin, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate) and flavanolic oligomers (dimers, trimers and tetramers).
Does pine bark have the same properties as grape seed?
The oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) in both pine bark and grape seed are quite similar. In fact, some of the initial research on OPCs was done on pine bark extract. Having both in one formula provides synergy and a wide spectrum of benefits.
